Risks And Side Effects

While many liposuction patients experience little to no complications from the procedure, a small percentage of patients experience minor side effects after having the surgery performed.

One of the most common side effects from the procedure is bruising and swelling. Some bruising may occur immediately following the procedure but should fade within a few weeks of the surgery. Swelling, however, may be long-term and last for one to two months.

Another concern back liposuction patients have relates to the appearance of scars. Generally, surgeons create tiny incisions during the procedure to remove fat, but the scars from these incisions should fade over the course of a few weeks.

It is important to remember that everyone heals differently. Be sure to talk to your doctor if you have a history of keloidal scarring. Generally the incisions for liposuction surgery are left open to let fluids drain from the body and to encourage healing.

Back Liposuction Recovery

After liposuction of the back fat, some patients may experience pain, numbness or soreness after surgery. These symptoms should fade a few days to a week after the procedure is performed. In most cases, your surgeon will prescribe a pain medication for use immediately after the surgery and may require some patients to wear a compression garment while they heal. To decrease your recovery time after having back lipo preformed, be sure to stay hydrated with water and reduce the amount of sodium in your diet. A low-sodium diet will help to prevent swelling. Also, ask a friend to come over to help out immediately following the procedure, as you will need rest and recuperation. Take the time to let your body begin to heal before you resume your normal activities.
