SMART Liposuction Cost and Price Factors

Depending on the professional you question, you may be told that there is no difference among the various liposuction procedures.

Recently, however, there has been another variant offered in liposuction, called SMART Liposuction.

This procedure utilizes a powerful, precise laser that is specially calibrated to liquify fat deposits under the skin.

SMART Liposuction, as conventional liposuction, still uses a tube, or cannula inserted into the body to remove the fat cells after they are liquified by the laser.

General Cost and Price Factors for SMART Liposuction

SMART Liposuction may cost more than traditional liposuction, and one of the reasons is because of the equipment. The SMART Liposuction machine alone costs $150,000, and the surgeon may incur other expenses in his or her own training or training for staff.

Some offices charge $2,000 to $3,000 for the first procedure and $500 and up for the second or more follow-up procedures. The cost of follow-up appointments, though, for patient check-ups, should be included in the initial price.

SMART Liposuction is real surgery -- not a lunch time procedure. So while it may be done with local anesthesia, it should still be understood and regarded as surgery.

As such, proper preparation must be made. Seek out a surgeon who performs liposuction as his only speciality in general, and SMART Liposuction in particular.

You should not even consider an ear, nose and throat doctor, for instance, who has taken a course, gotten a certificate, and added SMART Liposuction to his practice. Even though this may be legal in most places, it is not the best choice you can make.

When you are interviewing a doctor you may be considering for your surgery, be sure to ask for his credentials and 2 or 3 references from satisfied patients.

No good doctor will have a problem giving you references and relating his or her background, or reassuring you about his qualifications. You should also be able to ask questions and get satisfying and complete answers concerning any area of the procedure you are wondering about, from preparation to follow-up appointments.

The doctor should give you enough time and attention to put you at ease and address all your concerns. It is always good to take someone with you to your appointments, or at least initial consultation, as they may notice and remember something that you did not.

Write down any questions you have ahead of time so that you don't forget what you wanted to ask.

Cost Alternatives for SMART Liposuction

Since most liposuction, including SMART Liposuction, is cosmetic and therefore elective surgery, many insurance plans will not pay for it.

While cost alone should not be the deciding factor in selecting a surgeon, within this context it is possible to find that costs will vary from surgeon to surgeon.

Selecting the doctor with the lowest price offer is fine if you determine the reason for the lower costs, such as location, size of the office, example, more doctors sharing expenses, etc.

Some people travel to other countries for low-cost surgery, but this should only be attempted after thorough research of both the surgeon and the facility. Again, do not skip getting references.

It would, perhaps, be wiser to seek financing in your own country first, as there are banks and lending agencies that will make loans for medical purposes. The criteria may be similar as any loan, in that you may need good credit and verifiable income.

Another financing alternative is asking relatives if they might lend you the money for your procedure. Just be sure to treat this benefit as any loan, put the agreement in writing, and gratefully repay the person who made your surgery possible.

If you follow all the necessary steps with no shortcuts, do all the research possible and do not make a hasty decision, you will surely have good results and the positive outcome that you are expecting.
