13. The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS)
The field of oral and maxillofacial surgery involves the surgical repair of oral pain, wisdom teeth, and misaligned jaws. And just like any other specialty field, there are organizations that surgeons can join and become certified.
The AAOMS is one of these organizations. With over nine thousand members, the AAOMS supports these members with education and training programs. All surgeons who become members must adhere to the following rules:
- Participate in continuing medical education
- All offices must meet very strict national standards that are verified through periodic inspections.
However inconvenient these rules may seem, the benefits definitely outweigh the inconvenience. Some of the benefits include access to hands on clinical training, educational programs to assist office and dental assistants, and free attendance to the Dental Implant Conference and the AAOMS annual meeting.
