1. The American Medical Association (AMA)

Nathan Smith Davis, MD is the founder and creator of the AMA. In 1847, at just thirty years old, he was elected into the New York Medical Society where he found his lifes passion--To improve medical education and the licensing process of doctors. It was this desire that led to the creation of the AMA. During his tenure on the NY Medical Society, he proposed the concept of a single, unified body to carry out his ideas. The AMA was born!

1. The American Medical Association (AMA)

It was the goal of Davis and the purpose of the AMA to do three very important things:

  1. Improve medical education standards and requirements,
  2. Create and implement a universal code of ethics, and
  3. Advance the science of medicine.

It was, and still is, believed that these three tasks would eventually lead to the overall improvement of public health.

For well over 160 years, the AMA has been at the forefront of medicine. It is the single most important, respectable, and recognizable medical association in the world.

In an effort to unite physicians with patients, the AMA proudly supports and provides its members with career support, education, opportunities to join various groups directly related to a physician's current career status, and insurance options.

All of these resources are in place to support physicians so that they can focus on patient care--which ultimately leads to the overall improvement of public health.

It would seem as though the dreams of a young doctor so many years ago has finally come to fruition.
