Another specialty field of cosmetic surgery is involving the eyes. With the advent of LASIK, more and more people are opting for surgery to correct vision problems. Therefore, there needs to be some type of organization to educate and regulate surgeons in this particular field of medicine.
ASCRS Founded in 1974, this independent organization strives to provide education, training, and support to all opthamalic surgeons.
Currently the ASCRS has members from over 160 countries that reap the benefits of this association which include subscriptions to several major publications, clinical training opportunities, access to Virtual ASCRS which enables surgeons twenty four hour access to online resources, inclusion in the eye CONNECT directory, and the potential to earn some very prestigious awards and recognition.
