Vaser Liposuction Techniques

Vaser liposuction is an ultrasound liposuction method that removes unwanted fat from the body. During a Vaser liposuction procedure, ultrasonic energy breaks down the fat particles stored in the patient’s body so they can be easily and safely removed using a suction system. Patients are fully awake and conscious during the entire procedure and generally experience minimal pain due to the non-invasive nature of the technique.

Vaser Liposuction Method

A Vaser liposuction procedure requires a very short recovery time, which is one of the factors that makes the method so appealing. Another benefit to the technique is its ability to generally be less disruptive to surrounding tissue, nerves and blood vessels than other methods.

This approach creates less bruising and swelling in patients than traditional liposuction methods.

The Vaser liposuction method was fully accredited by the FDA in 2002 and has since become one of the most popular forms of non-surgical liposuction. Many cosmetic surgeons prefer this method of liposuction because it allows them to easily eliminate small pockets of fat that are stored in their patient’s bodies.

This technique also allows surgeons to target sensitive areas of the body—such as the chin, arms, neck and inner thighs—that may not easily be toned with exercise alone but are also not able to be altered with other forms of liposuction. Vaser liposuction works best for people who have unwanted fat in a specific area.

Cost

Vaser liposuction can cost between $2,000 and $4,000, depending on the surgeon and the area of the body.

The average total cost for one area of the body is about $3,500—a $2,000 fee for the surgeon, a $500 fee for the anesthesiologist and a $700 facility fee.

Time

The procedure can take up to an hour to perform, depending on which area of the body is being treated.

Side Effects and Risks

Patients may experience swelling and bruising after the procedure, but the discomfort will not be as extreme as it might be with other forms of liposuction.

Any pain can be eased with over-the-counter pain medication. As with any method of liposuction, Vaser does involve some risks, though they occur quite rarely.

Liposuction could cause fat clots or blood clots to form, a loss of fluid, skin or tissue injury from the ultrasound’s probe or fluid collecting in the lungs.

Results

A patient’s sculpted body will remain intact for about ten years following their procedure, depending on what food they eat and their general lifestyle.

Recovery

After undergoing a Vaser liposuction procedure, a patient can expect to return to work after three or four days.

Insurance

Most insurance providers will not grant coverage of Vaser liposuction, as it is considered an aesthetic procedure.

Pain, Discomfort and Anesthesia

Because Vaser liposuction is relatively painless, the procedure can be performed under local anesthesia while the patient is fully conscious.

Less Invasive Alternatives

Some less invasive procedures include VelaShape, VelaSmooth, Lipodissovle and Mesotherapy.

Advantages of Other Methods

Other forms of liposuction can be less expensive than Vaser.
